11 May 2018 - Demonstration - Mike Murtagh

Mike works in a variety of media, ranging from detailed pencil drawings to oil paintings.
Mike writes -
I like to work on projects which reflect my interests and, in particular, my passion for music – especially jazz.
I was born in Swansea in 1953 and have pursued my love of figurative painting and drawing since childhood, specialising in figures and portraits. I am a member of the Armed Forces Art Society (AFAS) and I exhibit annually under its auspices at the Mall Galleries in London. I am currently the AFAS Exhibition Organiser. I also exhibit in various local galleries and competitions and am a member of two very active local societies - CO3 Studio Group and Colchester Art Society.

I served in the RAF for 16 years in several locations at home and overseas. While serving in the RAF in Berlin in 1992, I also worked for Oscar-winning production designer, Luciana Arrighi, on a set design for the John Schlesinger film of the Ian MacEwan novel, The Innocent. I finished my RAF career at the British Embassy in Moscow and then I joined the Foreign Office, where I worked in the Diplomatic Service for 10 years before retiring in 2009.

I am available for commissions, workshops and tuition. You can see more examples of my work at my website: www.mypersonalportrait.co.uk
